Score-based logic lets you turn a survey into a quiz, assessment, or segmentation tool. You assign points to answers, SegmentOS adds them up, and you can display a result message or branch respondents based on the total. This guide covers how to set it up.

What it is

Scoring has two parts. On each question you assign point values to individual answers in the Scoring section of the editor. In the Scoring view of the builder you turn on master scoring, set how scores are shown, and define result bands — score ranges that trigger a message or action when a respondent finishes.

How to set up scoring

  1. In the builder, open a question and expand its Scoring section, then toggle scoring on for that question.
  2. Enter a point value for each answer option. Optionally set a Score Weight (multiplier) to make a question count more or less toward the total.
  3. Repeat for every question you want to count. A preview shows the maximum possible points from that question.
  4. Open the More dropdown in the toolbar and choose Scoring to open the Score-Based Logic view.
  5. Turn on Enable Scoring (the master switch). The Scored Questions Overview lists your scored questions and the Max Possible Score.
  6. Optionally enable Show score to respondent to display the total on the completion screen, and set a Score Label.
  7. Under Result Bands & Actions, click Add Result Band. Give it a label, color, Min Score and Max Score (both inclusive), and a Result Message shown to the respondent.
  8. Choose an Action for the band — no action, end survey, disqualify respondent, or redirect to a URL.
  9. Click Save Scoring Config.

Tips & best practices

  • Bands are evaluated in order and the first matching band wins, so make sure your ranges cover the full scale without gaps.
  • Use Score Weight to emphasize harder or more important questions in a quiz.
  • For mid-survey branching, open a question's Logic tab and select Running Score as the condition source to branch on the score accumulated so far.
  • Check the Max Possible Score in the overview to keep your band ranges aligned with what's actually achievable.

Plan availability
