Segmentation lets you ask "how is this group different?" without exporting anything. Pick a dimension — like age, gender, or any choice question — and the entire results dashboard re-calculates for that group and compares it to your overall sample.
When to use it
- You want to know how a subgroup (e.g. 18–28, or promoters) answers differently from everyone.
- You're preparing a readout and need the standout differences fast.
- You want to validate that a segment is large enough to trust.
How to segment
- Open a study and go to its results page.
- Above the tabs you'll see the Segment by bar. Choose a dimension from the dropdown (any single/multiple-choice, yes/no, rating, NPS, or similar question with a handful of distinct answers).
- Click one or more values (e.g.
18-28). The whole dashboard re-segments instantly. - The bar shows how many responses match (e.g. 129 of 1,379 · 9%). Click Clear to reset.
You can combine values within a dimension (OR) and across dimensions (AND) — for example Female and 25–34.
What changes when a segment is active
- KPI cards show the segment's numbers with a delta versus everyone (e.g. completion rate, average time).
- Per-question charts switch to a side-by-side comparison: the segment (green) over everyone (gray), with the point difference per answer.
- The Notable differences panel appears at the top of the Overview tab — see Notable differences.
- The question you segmented by is excluded from the comparison (so you don't see the tautology "the 18–28 group is more likely to be 18–28").
Tips & best practices
- Aim for at least ~20 responses in a segment before reading too much into differences — small samples are noisy. SegmentOS labels low-sample insights as "early signal."
- Use segmentation alongside the Drivers tab to go from "who differs" to "what predicts the outcome."
- Everything is calculated in your browser, so it's instant and private.
