Create your survey in multiple languages so respondents can answer in the language they prefer. You author in one source language, add translation languages, and SegmentOS shows each respondent the right version automatically.
What it is
Every survey has one Source Language — the language you write your questions in. You can add any number of Translation Languages on top of it from a list of 29 supported languages (English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, and more). Each translation can be filled in manually or generated with AI, and a coverage bar shows how complete each language is.
When to use it
- Your respondents speak different languages and you want higher response quality and completion.
- You are fielding internationally, including through the audience panel.
- You want a single survey to serve multiple markets instead of duplicating it.
How to translate your survey
- Open your survey in the builder and go to the Languages tab (Multi-Language).
- Under Source Language, confirm the language your survey is authored in. You can change it from the dropdown; all translations are based on this source.
- Under Translation Languages, click Add Language, pick a language from the list, and click Add. Repeat for each language you need.
- Click a language (or its Translate button) to open its translation editor. Each question shows the source text alongside fields for the translated text.
- To translate quickly, click AI Translate All to translate every remaining question into that language with AI. Already-translated questions are skipped, and you can still review and edit any field by hand.
- Watch the coverage badge and progress bars — they show the percentage complete and how many questions still need translation. Aim for 100% before launching.
- To remove a language, click its trash icon and confirm; this permanently deletes that language's translation data for all questions.
How respondents get the right language
When someone opens the survey, SegmentOS checks their browser's language settings and displays the survey in the first matching supported language. If none of their browser languages match, the survey falls back to your source language. Respondents do not have to pick a language manually — it is detected for them.
Tips & best practices
- Finish writing and finalizing your source-language questions before translating, so you do not have to redo translations after edits.
- Use AI Translate All for a fast first pass, then review key wording for tone and accuracy — especially for choice options and rating labels.
- Get to 100% coverage on each added language before you launch; untranslated items fall back to the source language for that respondent.
- Keep question wording concise and unambiguous, which translates more reliably.
- Removing a language deletes its translations permanently, so only remove languages you are sure you no longer need.
Plan availability
